Hot Tub Safety in Cold Weather: What Every Guest Should Know!
A winter hot tub soak is one of the best parts of a cottage getaway — steaming water, snow falling softly, and absolute relaxation. But cold weather also means extra care is needed to keep both you and the equipment safe.
Here’s everything guests should know to enjoy the hot tub responsibly during freezing temperatures.
🔥 1. Keep the Lid On When Not in Use
Winter air can freeze water fast. Always secure the cover tightly after each use to keep heat in and prevent ice buildup.
❄️ 2. Don’t Lower the Temperature Below 95°F / 35°C
Lowering the temperature too much in winter can cause the tub to freeze, damaging pumps and plumbing. It’s best to keep the temperature steady between 95–104°F (35–40°C).
🥾 3. Use the Outdoor Path Carefully
Snow and ice can make surfaces slippery. Wear sandals or boots with grip, use handrails if available, and take your time walking to the tub.
💧 4. Rinse Before You Soak
A quick rinse helps keep the water clean and reduces chemical use — especially important in winter when water changes aren’t possible.
👶 5. Keep Children Under Close Supervision
Kids lose body heat faster and should take shorter soaks. Never leave them unattended.
🍷 6. Drink Responsibly
The combination of alcohol and hot water can cause dehydration and dizziness. Enjoy that winter cocktail — just in moderation.
🌨️ 7. Close the Lid Fully After Use
Make sure all straps are fastened. A strong gust of winter wind can flip an unsecured lid and cause damage.
